Hickory Flat Rocks!

Dear Hickory Flat,

We absolutely "ROCKED" the GCRCT test this year!  We posted the best scores in the school's history!  Take a look at the chart below.  We will be sending home individual student scores on Monday and/or Tuesday.  These individual scores will just be the raw scores not the detailed report that comes out at the beginning of next school year.  We are so very proud of our students and teachers.

 "Bring Your Learning Device" (BYLD)

Hickory Flat Elementary School has been selected to take part in a pilot program called "Bring Your Learning Device" (BYLD).  The students participating in this program will be our sixth graders only.  This pilot program will be used to learn and assess the value of enabling students to bring their Internet-assessible, mobile wireless devices to school for educational purposes.  Students will have direct supervision by their classroom teachers when using these devices.

 Hickory Flat is helping others

Our Student Council members were very helpful with a worthy project!  On Thursday, January 26th, a speaker from the King Arthur Baking Company taught all of our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders how to bake bread!  She explained the Math and Science concepts involved with making dough, letting it rise, and baking it into loaves, cinnamon rolls, or pizza.  Each student was given two bags of flour, a recipe booklet, yeast, and a dough scraper.  Students were challenged to bake bread with their families over the weekend and return one loaf of bread on Monday, January 30th.  The loaves were then donated to the Atlanta Food Bank to benefit those in need.  We collected 197 loaves of bread to donate!!!  We are so proud of our students!  Thank you so much to our Student Council members for their help and to all the students who baked a loaf of bread for the needy!
