Monday - Friday; 7:20 - 7:55am
Students will report to the media center one day per week to participate in the morning news.  They will operate the video cameras, anchor the news, and assist with creating content for the news program.

Once per week
Friends Club participants will assist with tutoring, art, music, recess and adaptive PE. A small group will be chosen to assist in Special Olympics.

Two Wednesdays per month; 2:45- 3:45

Students will photograph daily and special event activities that take plasce at school.  During our meetings, students will create poster advertisements and skits to encourage yearbook sales, organize fliers, decide what photos should/shouldn’t be used, vote on different contests held to help to create the yearbook, and distribute yearbooks to the school.

1st Thursday/month; 2:45 - 4:00
At each meeting, the students will participate in a hands-on lab activity similar to the Science Olympiad Events.  Examples of some of the  activities are: Metric Measurement,Egg Drop, Penny Barge, Experimental Design, Mystery Architecture, Write It – Do It, Mystery Powders, Crime Busters, and Bottle Rockets.

  • We plan to participate in various in-school fundraisers for Childhood Cancer Campaign, can drives, and participation in Canton Optimist activities (such as fund-rasiers and parades) as approved by administration.

     

Firebirds Book Club and Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl TeamUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Mondays; Aug. - Dec.
Students will read their assigned books before the meetings.  During meetings, we will discuss the books in groups, complete graphic organizers to help us remember the books, create practice questions to add to a wiki, write book summaries, and play quiz games to test our knowledge of the books.  We will also hold mock competitions.  From these competitions, the top readers will be invited to represent Indian Knoll at the county Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition.

2:30 - 3:30 Wednesday, Nov. - April
Review of academic bowl quizzes and materials, research into topics including math, science, social studies, language arts, fine arts and other miscellaneous areas of interest, practice games, intramural competition bowls, and academic zone competitions.

7:10 - 7:45 Mondays and Wednesdays
The Firebird Orffestra will perform with chorus at the December school-wide assembly and at PTA Cultural Arts in March.

Tuesdays/Thursday 7:10 - 7:45
Firebird Chorus students will participate in  regular rehearsals and 4 performances including, but not limited to the Veterans’ Day Program, Partners in Education Holiday Breakfast, School-wide Holiday Assembly, and the Spring PTA meeting for Cultural Arts Night. Five students will be selected through an audition to participate in the Cherokee County Elementary Honor Chorus.

Daily; 7:00-7:45 and 2:20-2:45

Flag Patrol:

Students will raise the Flags in the morning and remove flags at the end of the school day following proper flag protocols. 

Safety Patrol:  Students will assist faculty with hall way procedures.  This may or may not include bus safety and car dismissal.

Once a month on Wednesday from October through March
The students will be learning about nutrition, healthy living, and public speaking from the Cherokee County 4-H Extension Agent Trudy Christopher along wiht help form the teacher sponsor, Chelsea Magee.  They will also be involved in community service projects such as collecting cans, toiletry items, etc.  They will also be given the opportunity to attend a public speaking competition and camp outside of school if they want to participate in it.

Daily 7:20 - 7:55am
Students will report to the media center at their assigned time each day to participate in the Indian Knoll Media Marvels.  They will collect library books and return them to the media center, sort books on book carts, pull books for teachers, shelve books, start up and shut down computers, sharpen pencils, pull books for display, and complete other tasks as needed.

Thursdays, 2:30 - 3:45,  Sept. - Dec.
During meetings, students will be taught about the technology required to complete projects in the following categories: digital photography, digital video production, multimedia applications, non-animated graphic design, non-multimedia applications, technology literacy, web 2.0 applications, case modification, robotics, and automated graphic design.  Students will be given the opportunity to work on a project of their choosing to present at the Georgia Technology Fair on January 26, 2013.

2:30 - 3:30 tiwice per month
Studnets will build an autonomous ropbot to accomplish a task.  Studnets will participate as a team in the Robot Game Qualifiers and tournament.  Fundraising opportunities are planned for the year.
