What is the Dewey?
The Dewey Decathlon is a reading program that requires students to read 25 books from a variety of focus areas. Students will read one book from seven categories of the nonfiction section of the Dewey Decimal System (seven books), one biography, three Georgia Children’s Book Award/Peach Award nominees (one from the current year, two from any prior year) , and seven *free choice books. This helps students to be well rounded readers, and gives them a tremendous sense of accomplishment as the complete this task. Students are rewarded for every five books they complete. Don't forget to check in with the media specialist for their prizes.
*Free choice books must be on students’ reading level.
