 Online Learning Opportunities

CCSD– Where Options Abound!

Our mission is to enable all students to communicate effectively, gather and use information, make responsible decisions, utilize technology effectively and adapt to the challenges of the future.

Providing a variety of digital and virtual learning opportunities will help make our students more successful in the 21st Century workplace.

Digital Online Courses are web-based, in a lab setting facilitated by a classroom teacher who will monitor and assist students.  These courses are licensed from an online provider and implemented by our district.

Virtual Online Courses are web-based with a certified online teacher who provides direct teacher to student interactive instruction, collaborative opportunities and transcript grades.

Initial Credit Options

A. Georgia Virtual School (GaVS) is a fully accredited and NCAA approved virtual high school.  Currently GaVS offers over 120 unique core curriculum, AP, and elective courses. Students taking a course for the first time earn high school credit while learning in a virtual format where a certified, highly-qualified teacher guides the student on a self-directed learning program.

Explore GaVS at www.gavirtualschool.org.

B. Other accredited online providers of initial credit are available for a fee.  Students wishing to take a course offered by a provider other than GAVS or Apex, are required to obtain advanced approval from their home school before registering with that provider.  The guidance counselor will verify that the course meets his program of study.

C. Apex is used for initial credit at ACE Academy where students taking a course for the first time can move at their own pace using digital instruction in a classroom facilitated by a highly qualified teacher.  Students enrolled in high school at Tippens Education Center also make use of Apex for initial credit.

**See your guidance counselor for more information on initial credit options.

Credit Recovery Options

A.  Digital Credit Recovery during the 6 period instructional day

Juniors and seniors who have previously taken a course but not received credit are eligible for the credit recovery option during the regular school day using Apex digital content that has been aligned to Georgia state standards.  Having this opportunity will help them graduate with their class.

Apex Learning is a respected leader in the field of online course delivery courseware. Apex is a web-based digital curriculum for grades 9-12. Apex is a comprehensive, engaging, individualized learning program. Each classroom has a teacher facilitator who monitors progress and assists students.

Apex can be accessed at any time and from any computer with Internet access.

B.  Digital Credit Recovery outside the 6 period instructional day

Credit Connect courses are offered at all the high schools either before or after school hours and during summer session hours.

Credit Connect provides an additional opportunity for students to retake a course previously failed.  Credit Connect courses are self-directed, digital learning courses utilizing Apex content, aligned to Georgia state standards.

This is a tuition based program with each 1/2 course (.5 Carnegie unit) costing $200.  Students may take up to two courses per semester. Any course started must be completed within the semester. There are no refunds.

C.  Georgia Credit Recovery

Georgia Department of Education also offers opportunities for credit recovery.

For additional information see www.gacreditrecovery.org.

D.  Other accredited online providers of credit recovery are available for a fee.  Students wishing to take a course provided by a vendor other than GaVS or Apex, are required to obtain advanced approval from their home school before registering with the vendor.  The guidance counselor will verify that the course meets the student's program of study.
