CCSD RESOURCES for CYBER SAFETY

All of the following sites provide information on internet use and digital citizenship.  CCSD students have access to these resources with a username and password that can be provided by their classroom teacher.

Video with closed captioning (approximately 4 minutes) Grades K-4
Covers Chat, Email, Personal Information, Safe Websites, computer virus, downloading files, and importance of passwords

Activities include: two quizzes on paper or online with immediate feedback, printout of score and audio support; print partners; Word wall with words and definitions; Maze Game, Draw It, Write About It, suggestions of books on the topic to read.

Tip cards suitable for printing teach how kids can stay safe in different contexts, such as at home, on the Internet, and when doing sports. There is even a quiz kids can take on safety concepts. Submitting the completed quiz gives kids suggestions of which tip cards they ought to pay a bit more attention to.

 

Elmer’s Safety Village
Elmer the Safety Elephant wants every child to stay safe using the internet. Elmer goes through important safety rules with kid-friendly explanations. Coloring pages and craft activities are provided to reinforce the concepts, as well as tips and information for parents and educators.

 

WiredKids: Online Safety Project for Kids, Tweens and Teens!
Do you know the dangers surfing the web and how to avoid them?  Follow the links to learn how to surf safely. Wired Kids includes information for children, parents as well as other professional sectors of the community.

This site has videos and games for parents and students and covers topics like appropriate internet use, internet safety, fraud, cell phone use and lots more.

Provides tips for both parents and children. There are lots of resources that can be downloaded in text or video format.

 

www.ikeepsafe.org
This is a great site that provides resources for parents, teachers, and kids. There are videos and even books you can get from this site. The books are stories that you can read to your children to teach them about online safety and the videos are made for kids as well that are fun to watch and provide a learning experience.

This site strengthens the understanding of what "Digital Citizenship" is and provides resources on the responsible use of technology. It provides lots of resources on the topic of Social Networking.

Provides definitions and examples of what cyberbullying is as well as steps to take when cyberbullying occurs. Also shares reasons as to why cyberbullying occurs.

Another site that has wonderful resources for parents and kids. The kids part of this site presents information in a fun way and uses lots of cartoons to capture kids' attention.
