Board Briefs: School Board Approves Appointment of New Chief Operating Officer D Murdock

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020 approved the appointment of a longtime CCSD leader as its next Chief Operations Officer.

Dr. Debra Murdock, a past Georgia High School Principal of the Year who currently serves as an Executive Director in the Office of School Operations, will begin leading the division this spring.

CCSD Earns Positive Credit Ratings Benefitting Taxpayers CCSD logo

The Cherokee County School District earned positive credit ratings from the world’s top agencies, benefitting the community’s taxpayers.

Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s financial service companies this month reaffirmed CCSD’s Aa2 and Aa+ ratings, respectively, and awarded Stable outlooks to both, which places the District in an outstanding position for future growth. 
 

Dean Rusk Student Named County Spelling Champ spelling bee winners

Dean Rusk Middle School sixth-grader Riley O’Neill correctly spelled “piratical” and then “hurriedly” to claim the title as the county’s top speller at the 2020 Cherokee County School District Spelling Bee Thursday night at Cherokee High School.  Brayden McPhillips of Woodstock Middle School captured second, and Laura Hand of Creekland Middle School placed third.

New Start Times

School Start Times for the  2019-2020 School Year

Cherokee County Board of Education ran the numbers, and will be able to add five more minutes of learning to the school day for elementary school students during the 2019-2020  school year without disrupting bus routes. Beginning in August, the school day will start at 7:35 a.m. for all elementary school students. The schedules for our other schools will remain unchanged. As we continue to raise expectations for learning, while still allowing time for recess, friendship and fun, every minute helps.

 

7:00 ~ School Building Opens for Students, Breakfast served in Cafeteria

7:35 ~ Tardy bell rings
             Students not in the building must be signed in by a parent/guardian
             Instruction begins

2:15 ~ Students are dismissed
