Etowah HS Bynum Scholarship Winner 5 4 21

A Cherokee County School District student has earned a statewide scholarship!

Etowah High School senior McKenzie Anderson has earned the 2021 Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference Buster Bynum Scholarship.

The one-time $2,000 scholarship is awarded to one student in each state served by the regional association and honors a longtime advocate for improving student transportation safety.  Eligible students must have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA; a record of leadership, citizenship and service; and be the child of a public school transportation employee.

McKenzie, whose mom works as a CCSD bus driver, has a 3.7 GPA and is a member of her school’s Beta Club and art club.  She plans to pursue a fine arts degree in 2D animation and create her own animated series.

“McKenzie is a dedicated art student and contributes to a positive work environment,” teacher Shannah Dean said.  “She is approachable, always willing to share her knowledge and assist fellow students.”

The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools will honor her with a virtual recognition at the May School Board meeting.
