Two CCSD schools have received renewals of their national digital citizenship certification.

Oak Grove Elementary School STEAM Academy and Macedonia Elementary School have received Common Sense School re-certification through 2023 from the national nonprofit organization Common Sense.  Schools achieve this designation by demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching students to think critically and to use technology responsibly.

Oak Grove ES STEAM Academy media specialist Denise Lewis and Macedonia ES technology teacher Tenille Turner were credited by their Principals for achieving the re-certification.

Both schools use Common Sense Education’s resources as part of their lessons to teach students responsible technology use including managing online relationships and avoiding cyberbullying, internet safety, protecting personal privacy and their online reputation, and understanding media literary and balance and the perils of plagiarism.

“We applaud these schools for embracing digital citizenship as an important part of their students’ education,” said Kelly Mendoza, vice president of education programs at Common Sense Education.  “The faculty and staff deserve high praise for giving students the foundational skills they need to compete and succeed in the 21st-century workplace and participate ethically in society at large.”
