Two Cherokee County School District nurses are statewide award finalists!
CCSD Lead Nurse Gwen Chambers and Arnold Mill Elementary School Nurse Betty Miller are finalists for the March of Dimes 2018 Georgia Nurse of the Year Awards, which honor excellence in patient care, compassion, and service.
Nurses statewide are nominated in 15 categories ranging from Advanced Practice to NICU to Public Health; those nominations then are reviewed by high-ranking nurse leaders to select finalists.
Ms. Chambers, who joined CCSD as a school nurse 30 years ago and has served as a lead nurse for 18 years, and Ms. Miller, who joined CCSD as a school nurse in 2010, are among only three school nurses statewide named to the elite group of nurses from hospitals, medical centers, healthcare systems and universities. Ms. Chambers previously was honored with the Georgia Association of School Nurses’ 2017 Georgia School Nurse Administrative of the Year.
The finalists will be honored, and the 2018 Georgia Nurse of the Year Award winner will be named, at the Nurse of the Year Awards Gala on Nov. 9 at The Fairmont in Atlanta. Ms. Chambers and Ms. Miller will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s Nov. 15 meeting.
