REEDER Kara

A Cherokee County School District teacher has been named a 2019 Georgia STEM Scholar!

E.T. Booth Middle School seventh-grade science teacher Kara Reeder is one of only 23 teachers selected from a pool of statewide nominees to earn the honor from the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers.

The group of K-8 teachers was selected for their excellence in teaching children about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and their innovation in integrating STEM lessons in elementary education.

Each honoree received a $500 award to purchase classroom STEM supplies and was celebrated at a Gala event celebrating the nonprofit organization’s 30th anniversary at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

A 16-year educator who joined the E.T. Booth MS faculty four years ago, Ms. Reeder also was honored this year as her school’s Teacher of the Year and earned the Golden Apple Award in 2018 from Delta Kappa Gamma.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Dayton and her master’s of education in curriculum, instruction and supervision from Oakland University.

Ms. Reeder will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s April 18 meeting.
