Community Partners Provide Wagons to CCSD Preschools

Wagon Donation

Connecting resources with needs is a key component of the many amazing partnerships sustained by the Cherokee County School District. In a recent example of how partners help CCSD schools, Janet Read with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta was able to connect CCSD Preschools with Roger Leggett, a Douglasville man who runs a small nonprofit called "Chad's Bracket." The preschool centers had a need for several wagons to transport children with disabilities, helping them travel to the playground or around the school without having to use a wheelchair. A Lockheed retiree, Mr. Leggett accepts donations to purchase and adapt wagons for use at schools, hospitals and centers specifically for medically fragile students as a fun and functional method of transport-- he also outfits some of the wagons with a metal bracket that will hold IV bags or oxygen tanks. His late son came up with the idea for the wagon attachment, and Mr. Leggett created the nonprofit in honor of his son and his invention. Mr. Leggett delivered six wagons to Ralph Bunche Center recently, which Principal Victoria Thom noted will be used at all three CCSD preschool campuses to help students. Each site will get one wagon with an IV pole and one without.
