Posted On: Friday, January 10, 2020

GARLAND Karen

A Cherokee County School District teacher has been selected to serve on a statewide science education board!

Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy science lab teacher Karen Garland was tapped to serve on the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia’s Board as its Council of Outdoor Learning Chair.

“Her knowledge and understanding of the Council’s purpose and history will be instrumental to many of the new board members as they advance,” Principal Joey Moss said of the honor, noting Ms. Garland has previously been selected to serve on the statewide board.

Earlier this school year, Ms. Garland was named one of CCSD’s four Teacher of the Year finalists and is a past Department of Natural Resources’ Georgia Conservation Teacher of the Year and Georgia Department of Education Science Ambassador, among her many honors.

Ms. Garland joined CCSD seven years ago after a career as an environmental educator for the Chattahoochee Nature Center and Georgia Conservancy.
