“We’re not surprised, but we’re delighted to see these extraordinary students advance as Finalists in this prestigious program,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “This is just the latest among many accolades they have earned through dedication to their own learning and service to their school and community, and we look forward to seeing them achieve scholarships and many more future successes.  Congratulations to our Finalists, and thank you to the teachers and other school staff who invested in them along their educational journey.”

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation oversees the prestigious competition, and this week named 15,000 finalists, who were chosen from 1.5 Million students based on exceptional 2020 PSAT scores, SAT scores that confirmed their PSAT performance, outstanding academic achievements, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors.  An endorsement and recommendation from a high school official and an essay by the student also were factored into the finalist decision.
