CCSD 2021 National Merit Finalists 2 11 21

All five of the Cherokee County School District’s 2021 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists have advanced to be named Finalists!

They are: of Cherokee HS, Dylan Iovino; of Creekview HS, Nathan Davis; of Etowah HS, Ben Willett; of River Ridge HS, Nicholas Audinet; and of Sequoyah HS, Jeremy Jeong.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which organizes the elite academic program, this week named 15,000 finalists -- chosen from 1.5 Million students based on outstanding academic achievements including exceptional SAT scores; school and community activities including community service, leadership roles, employment; and recommendation from a high school official.  Less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors earn the title of finalist.

“We’re so proud of these seniors’ continued success and hope to see them win scholarships, as they certainly have earned this recognition through years of dedicated study and service,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Few can claim the honor of National Merit Finalist, and I know their families, teachers and our community joins me in congratulating them.”

National Merit in March will begin announcing the first round of more than 7,500 scholarships worth about $30 million to be awarded throughout the spring.
