A Cherokee County School District Class of 2022 graduate has earned a local scholarship from a CCSD Partner!
Etowah High School Class of 2022 graduate Ella Daugherty is the winner of the 2022 East West Bank Scholarship.
The Partnership Agreement between the School Board and East West Bank specifies one $2,500 scholarship will be awarded by the bank to a CCSD graduating senior each year. A committee of retired educators selected Ella as the winner from a pool of outstanding applicants. She will be congratulated at the June School Board meeting.
Ella will use the scholarship at the University of Georgia, where she plans to study business management and health policy and administration to pursue a career as a hospital administrator.
During her time at Etowah, Ella served in many leadership roles including as president of National Honors Society, president of Key Club and as a member of the Beta Club leadership team, Student Government, National English Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta math honors society. A four-year varsity sideline cheerleader, Ella also made time to volunteer in her school and community including as a lead mentor for Shop with an Eagle and an Adopt-a-Stream volunteer. Ella also worked as a lifeguard manager and instructor and cheerleading coach.
Ella, whose mother recently passed away from cancer, said her volunteer service to help students in need through Shop with an Eagle gave her important perspective. “I learned that there is always someone who has it worse than you and it is important to help those in tough situations,” she said.
In her recommendation for Ella, one of her teachers shared how Ella not only is an exceptional student, leader and volunteer, but also inspires her classmates … and her teachers.
“Ella is an innately compassionate leader, and Ella's high school story stands out to me because she is known for being very positive and optimistic, despite her own family trauma,” her teacher shared. “Coincidently, my mom also recently passed, months before Ella's mom -- creating an unspoken bond between us; however, in comparison, even as an adult, I did not handle my grief with the same amount of grace and poise Ella did. It is always a memorable moment and becomes a core memory when a teacher learns from, deeply admires, or wishes to emulate a student.”
