CCSD 2023 Georgia HOSA Health Career Winners 3 10 23

A team of Cherokee County School District students earned first place in a statewide career skills competition and is advancing to nationals!

Etowah High School juniors Samantha Durst, Temilola Oloruntoba, Katie Shay and Hannah Stack are members of the school’s HOSA Future Health Professionals chapter.  They created an award-winning public service announcement focused on mental health awareness for the HOSA state competition.  You can view their PSA online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERFWXWosOdg.

The team now advances to national competition at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas this summer.  Etowah’s HOSA advisors are Career Pathway healthcare science teachers Megan King and Amber Thayer.

“We’re so proud of these students for addressing such an important topic and earning state recognition for their efforts – congratulations!” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Our Career Pathway programs and associated clubs like HOSA offer our high school students outstanding opportunities to explore career paths, work together as teams and grow as leaders.  Congratulations and thank you to Ms. King and Ms. Thayer for all they do to help our students succeed.”

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize the team at an upcoming school board meeting.
