Academic Bowl
The Academic Bowl is open to all 4th and 5th grade students. In order to become a member of this team students must apply and then take an assessment with questions from all subject areas. The purpose of Academic Bowl is to recognize student scholastic aptitude, inspire students to excel academically, stimulate the students' competitive spirit and promote good citizenship. The team practices on Tuesdays from 2:20-3:15 during the second semester. The countywide competition is held in the spring.

Science Olympiad is open to all 4th and 5th grade students. In order to become a member of this club students must apply. Science Olympiad members participate in a variety of science activities to help prepare them for a cool science competition held every year at the county level. Some of the events include Rock Hound, Water Rockets, Weather or Not, and Barge Building. The competitions include academic and engineering skills. This club takes place on Mondays starting in January from 2:45 – 4:00.

Student Council consists of one elected student representative for each 5th grade homeroom. Club members develop and carry out service projects to benefit our community and school. They also serve as a liaison between the student body and the school to help make HFES a great place. Student Council meets on selected Thursday afternoons.

Thunderbird Theater Troupe
The Drama Club will be open to all 4th and 5th grade students. In order to become a member of this club, you will need to fill out an application. Drama Club will be a lot of fun learning about theater through improvisational skills, writing skits and putting on small performances. The club is intended for students to learn more about the performing arts and work together to create and perform skits. The club will take place one Wednesday a month for the whole year with a small performance at the end.
