Principal: Laura Akers Contact Mrs. Akers
Hi! I am so happy to be leading the Johnston Jaguar family! This is my 21st year in public education, and my 20th year as a Georgia educator. I am married to my husband, Jason, and we have two sons who attend CCSD schools. Jason and I moved to Georgia from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2000. We are HUGE Steelers fans and love watching football as a family.
Before moving to Georgia, I taught for one year in a suburb of Pittsburgh. After moving to GA, I taught 3rd grade and 4th grade in Cobb County for seven years. In that time, my husband and I moved from Marietta to the Towne Lake area due to the exceptional reputation of the Cherokee County School District. I was hired at Liberty Elementary and taught there for eight years in Kindergarten and first grade. In 2015, I was appointed as the Assistant Principal at Little River Elementary where I served for three years. I am excited to be the principal at Johnston for the second year. Last year was an amazing school year, and I know this year is going to be even better!
I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Educational Psychology. I earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University in 2005 and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I also earned my Specialist Degree from Kennesaw State University in 2017 in Educational Leadership, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Whether you and your family are Johnston veterans or you are new to Johnston this year, I know this is going to be an excellent year for everyone. Our big goal at Johnston this year is to build positive relationships with each other, our students and their families. We will also continue to provide rigorous curriculum excellence to our students. You will notice some new faces at Johnston this year, and I can assure you that you are going to be amazed by the talent of all of our teachers.
“Nothing is impossible because I’m possible” is our motto for this school year.
