On behalf of the Superintendent, please be advised of the following updates:

GRADUATES: The Superintendent has authorized a special #2020CCSDGrads recognition for the Class of 2020 on Friday, May 29.  As part of the last weekly observance when our high school football stadiums are illuminated for 20 minutes at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time) on Fridays, we will hold Class of 2020 parades at the schools from 7 to 9 p.m.  Principals will send more information about this event to the parents of seniors.  Graduates will drive through a pick-up area for honor cords, medals and other special regalia and, as a gift to every senior from their Principal, each will receive an embroidered school patch to affix to their keepsake graduation robes.  These patches, which have adhesive backing, feature the same design as those on the rental gowns used for past commencement ceremonies.

SUMMER RESOURCES: To help parents keep their children on track for a great start back to school, CCSD has created a Summer Learning Adventure website of vetted resources for students of all ages.  This collection of free resources features plenty of activities to keep students engaged in learning throughout the summer break.  From hands-on STEM activities and outdoor games to career exploration and weekly featured activities, there are dozens of engaging and exciting choices.  Through the website, students also will continue to have access to many of the online learning programs they regularly use in school.  The website at https://bit.ly/CCSDsummer20 will be updated throughout the summer break.

TECHNOLOGY: If you have not already returned the CCSD laptop and/or wifi device loaned to your child, it must be returned to CCSD by Wednesday, May 27, 2020.  If your school has not yet held its designated drop-off times, you can drop off then; if you have missed your school’s event, you can drop off between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday through May 27 at CCSD’s Technology Center (1020 Keeter Road, Canton, 30114); or on May 27: at Cherokee HS from 9 a.m. to noon or 4-6 p.m.; at Creekview HS from 2 to 4 p.m.; from 9 a.m. to noon at Etowah HS, River Ridge HS or Sequoyah HS; at Woodstock HS from 10 a.m. to noon.  No students are authorized to keep laptops beyond May 27.  Students enrolled in high school online summer school classes will be re-issued a laptop, if needed, before those classes begin; students also will have the opportunity to request a re-issued laptop for optional summer enrichment online activities.  This collection is necessary in order to prepare laptops (including physical and digital cleaning, required network reconnection, and license reissuing) and make all needed repairs within warranty timeframes in time for summer school and next school year.

MEALS: #CCSDserves to-go meal distribution will not be held on Memorial Day, May 25.  The service, which is open to all Cherokee County children in need, will continue on June 1 with slight changes to the schedule, which is posted at http://bit.ly/CCSDserves

CCEF: The Cherokee County Educational Foundation, the nonprofit organization that raises funds for CCSD teachers and programs, has announced tentative plans for the annual Chick-fil-A 5K.  Details for the Aug. 15 event, which benefits CCEF and Cherokee County Special Olympics, are online at https://bit.ly/CCEF5Kearly, with an “early bird” special for registering by June 5.

SCHOOL BOARD: The Cherokee County School Board will meet virtually for its 6 p.m. May 21 meeting.  In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, School Board members will sit in individual offices in the administration building and conduct their meeting online through Microsoft Teams.  More information about viewing the meeting is posted online here.
