Five hundred Cherokee County School District students competed in the CCSD Elementary Science Olympiad, with four teams now headed to State!
Hickory Flat ES Team Green earned first place in the competition, with Mountain Road ES Team Red placing second; and Knox ES STEM Academy Team Blue and Liberty ES tying for third. These teams advance to the Georgia Elementary Science Olympiad on May 11 at Kennesaw State University.
Cobb EMC and Gas South sponsored the CCSD event earlier this month, with 28 teams participating in 18 events designed to encourage exploration of new and challenging ways of solving problems as part of a team. Events require knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and applications and are strongly aligned to existing elementary science curriculum standards.
More than 100 first-, second- and third-place awards were presented to individual students at the CCSD event, which was organized by the Office of Curriculum & Instruction.
