It’s National School Bus Safety Week, and we want to recognize the ones who are responsible for keeping our students safe on the bus! Meet school bus driver Vicky Thomas and bus attendant Rodney Grant! #CCSDfam
BUS DRIVER VICKY THOMAS:
Q. What led you to become a CCSD bus driver?
A. Honestly, I had several people say they thought I would enjoy driving a bus. After hearing it several times, I decided to explore the possibility.
Q. What do you love most about your job?
A. I'm always learning something new. We transport some very special folks to and from school. Each one is unique and special. The last few years I worked with elementary and high school students; this year when I found out that I would be working with a lot of middle schoolers, I was not sure I would like it … I was wrong! They are GREAT! They love to share, and they make me smile even though most of their jokes are awful and they can be moody. They can be very caring for each other.
Q. What would you like others to know about driving a bus for CCSD?
A. Driving for the special needs team has been a great experience. My bosses have been very supportive and always willing to answer any questions I have. CCSD Transportation Department is a great team of motivated, caring employees.
Q. What makes you and Rodney a good team?
A. I respect him and listen to what he has to say about the kids. Rodney knew many of the kids and parents from years past, so that has been a huge bonus. The parents and kids are very comfortable with him and the way he treats me has made it easy for the kids.
BUS ATTENDANT RODNEY GRANT:
Q. What led you to become a CCSD bus attendant?
A. A love for kids. I previously worked with special needs kids as a recreation leader some years ago and knew I enjoyed working with them.
Q. What do you love most about your job?
A. Getting to work with the kids.
Q. What would you like others to know about being a bus attendant for CCSD?
A. It’s always fun and adventurous getting to work with all types of kids!
Q. What makes you and Vicky a good team?
A. Simple – we both respect each other.
