Meet Nurse Jenny Welch, OGES's School Nurse

Jenny Welch

My name is Jenny Welch, and I am the new School Nurse at Oak Grove ES. I grew up in Cartersville and attended UGA & MCG in Athens, where I earned my Nursing Degree. I have been a Pediatric Nurse for the past 20 years, most recently working at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. I live in Canton with my husband and 2 children. I have a 10th grader at Woodstock HS, and an 8th grader at Freedom MS. We have loved being a part of the CCSD school system, and I am so grateful to be able work here now as well. I look forward to serving the students at Oak Grove Elementary this year. Thank you for welcoming me into this community!

Notes from the Nurse

Easy Ways to Help Prevent Colds and Flu:
1- Frequent hand washing with soap and water or alcohol based sanitizer.
2- Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or sleeve, not your hands, to help
 prevent the spread of germs.
3- Get plenty of rest. Did you know that school age children need 10-12 hours of sleep
each night?
4- Drink plenty of fluids...preferably non carbonated, caffeine-free drinks.
5- Try to exercise regularly.
6- Stay away from others who are sick.

Keep children home from school if they are sick.

Is My Child Too Sick for School?

The clinic could use donations of new underwear

(no used underwear please) for girls and boys, sizes 5, 6, and 7.

Meet our Counselor - Ms. Janeen Bastin

Janeen Bastin

Meet Your Counselor

Our counselor at Oak Grove Elementary is Mrs. Janeen Anderson Bastin. Mrs. Bastin was born and raised right here in Acworth. After graduating from North Cobb High School, she went on to attend Reinhardt College, which, at that time, was a junior college. She then transferred to Valdosta State where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. She worked in the social work field for a few years, then entered the corporate world for a while and later pursued her graduate degree in counseling at West Georgia State University. She joined the Oak Grove staff as a school counselor in 2005 and loves working with the students and families of Oak Grove.

Mrs. Bastin lives in Cherokee County with her husband, their two children who also attend Cherokee County schools, and their two cats. When she is not working, Mrs. Bastin enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling to new places, trying new foods, do-it-yourself home projects, watching HGTV home renovation shows (Fixer Upper) and loves decorating.
