Six Cherokee County School District Class of 2022 graduates have earned scholarships from ABM Industry Groups LLC!
The company, which provides custodial services for CCSD schools, each year awards a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating senior from each of CCSD’s traditional high schools. The six winners are selected by a scholarship committee of retired CCSD educators and ABM representatives based on a student’s involvement in school and community activities and service; personal essays; and references.
The Class of 2022 winners are: of Cherokee HS: Greer Unterreiner; Creekview HS: Maddie Law; Etowah HS: Jhene "Jazz" Sturdivant; River Ridge HS: Haley Warholak; Sequoyah HS: Callie Bacon; and Woodstock HS: Camden Hinkelmann.
“Congratulations to each of our winners for earning this scholarship and best wishes as you continue your education,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Thank you to ABM for continuing its support of our schools by honoring students for outstanding school and community service.”
Greer will attend the University of Georgia to study criminal justice and psychology with plans to pursue a career as a criminal profiler with the FBI or GBI. While a student at Cherokee HS, Greer served as captain of the varsity lacrosse team, vice president of Health Occupation Students of America and as a member of the Cherokee County Youth Leadership Council, Alpha Gamma Service Society, National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. A competitive pianist, she also worked for a local food truck and was active in her church, including serving as a missionary.
Maddie will attend the University of North Georgia to study elementary education with plans to pursue a career as an elementary school teacher. While a student at Creekview HS, Maddie served as captain of the varsity swim team, volunteered with the Friends Club and as a peer helper and participated in the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy. Maddie also worked for CCSD’s After School Program for elementary school students.
Jazz will attend Georgetown University to study international politics with plans to pursue a career working for the state department’s foreign service or the World Bank. While a student at Etowah HS, Jhene served on the competition cheer team and as a varsity sideline cheerleader and as a member of the concert band, newspaper staff, Model United Nations, international students club, National Honors Society and National English Honors Society. Jhene also volunteered at her school’s tutoring center and privately tutored students.
Haley will attend Kennesaw State University to study exercise science or occupational therapy with plans to pursue a career in one of those fields. While a student at River Ridge HS, Haley played on the flag football, volleyball and lacrosse teams and served in the latter’s leadership program, as well as serving in Beta Club and National Honors Society. Haley also volunteered with Cherokee County Special Olympics and her church and worked part-time in a local restaurant.
Callie Bacon will attend the University of Central Florida with plans to earn a doctorate in physical therapy and pursue a career as a pediatric physical therapist. While a student at Sequoyah High School, Callie competed on the varsity track and field team, served as a vice president for the Beta Club and yearbook sports editor and was a member of the Key Club and National Honors Society. Elected both homecoming queen and prom queen, Callie also started her own photography business and volunteers with her church and the Hickory Flat ES PTA.
Camden will attend the University of Georgia to study cellular biology and pre-med with plans to pursue a career as a cardio-thoracic/vascular surgeon. While a student at Woodstock HS, Camden competed on the varsity track and field and cross country teams and as a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, iVlath Team and Academic Team. Camden has volunteered for 10 years for the Christmas Angel Tree Program and with her church and works for a local chiropractic office.
The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will congratulate the winners at this month’s School Board meeting.
