MUISE Loretta

A Cherokee County School District teacher has earned the State’s top honor for math education!

Loretta Muise of Woodstock High School has been named the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ High School Teacher of Excellence for 2019!

The Council presents three awards - one each for elementary, middle, and high school levels – which annually are given to “excellent teachers who have strong content foundations in mathematics appropriate for their teaching level, show evidence of growth in the teaching of mathematics, and show evidence of professional involvement.”

Ms. Muise, who has 29 years of experience, is the school’s math department chair and teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB/BC and Multivariable Calculus.  She joined CCSD as a math teacher at Woodstock HS in 2004 and was named the department chair in 2011.  Ms. Muise earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Salem State University and a specialist degree in education from Piedmont College.

The Council praised Ms. Muise for demonstrating excellence in her profession: “Loretta is not only great at collaborating, she is a superb leader.  She works with teachers to help them improve their performance and find innovative methods that will increase student performance.”

Ms. Muise will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the April 18 School Board meeting.

“Congratulations to Ms. Muise upon this well-deserved award, which recognizes her outstanding career of teaching students high-level math with an equally high level of professionalism and care,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We appreciate her dedication and look forward to celebrating this achievement with her!”
