CCSD Students Win at Regional and State Science & Engineering Fairs!

The Cherokee County School District was well represented at the 71st Georgia Science & Engineering Fair, with 20 Regional first-place winners, four State first-place winners and one student winning the State Fair’s Grand Award!

The competition began at the school level, with the best 43 projects from CCSD advancing to the Regional Fair, where 37 entries placed first, second or third. Students also received special awards and scholarships at the Regional Fair from Cobb EMC, Gas South and the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority, and at the State Fair from various sponsors.

Zakwan Khan of Woodstock High School earned first place at State, State Best in Category Award, State Intel ISEF Award, Tellus’ Future Science Stars Award and the State Fair Grand Award!

The students who won first place at Regions, with additional honors at the State Fair noted, are: of E.T. Booth MS, Neema Adolwa, first at State; Haylee Castens; Cristina Garcia, third place at State and the Inspiring Excellence Award; Alexandra McPherson, second place at State; Mikayla Parks, fourth place at State; Bella Postel, first place at State and the Ricoh Sustainable Development Award; Lydia Wooley; of Freedom MS, Milan Yadav, fourth at State and the Molecule-R Flavors Award; of Woodstock HS, Dayne Bergman, fourth place at State; Pfifer Blackman, the Georgia Veterinary Medical Auxiliary Award; Maddie Blanchard; Caitlin Callahan, second place at State; Mackenzie Englert; Abigail Fitz; Emma Frazer, fourth place at State; Carly Major, first place at State; Lillie Osborne; Isabel Plower, second place at State; Jacob Tweddle.

CCSD teachers Mark Blades (Freedom MS), Dr. Lawrence Gruszecki (E.T. Booth MS), and Anna Grantham (Woodstock HS) mentored these students in preparation for the State Fair.

The students will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s May 16 meeting.
