CCSD Student Places at International Science & Engineering Fair!

KHAN Zakwan

A Cherokee County School District student has placed at the International Science and Engineering Fair!

Woodstock High School rising senior Zakwan Khan earned honorable mention in the Addiction Science category for his project “The Role of the Cat-2 Gene in the Development of Substance Abuse.”

During the competition held in Phoenix, Ariz., his project garnered significant attention, and Zakwan was interviewed by representatives from the National Institutes of Health.

At the Georgia Science & Engineering Fair, Zakwan earned first place at State and the State Best in Category Award, State Intel ISEF Award, Tellus’ Future Science Stars Award and the State Fair Grand Award.

His numerous accomplishments as a CCSD student have most recently included being named this past school year to the State Superintendent of Schools’ Student Advisory Council and the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Model Atlanta Regional Commission and earning third place in the State Literary Championships, as well as earning a spot in the 2018 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program to study social studies.
