On behalf of the Superintendent, please be advised we have received official confirmation that the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered by the Department of Public Health (DPH) to our employees during our mass vaccination event this Thursday and Friday (March 11-12). This means that we will NOT need to close in-person learning on April 15 and 16 for a second round of vaccinations. As stated last week, we understand that the closure of in-person learning this Thursday and Friday may cause some families hardships. Our teachers will extend grace to your children in their remote learning work, and we ask that you please extend us the same grace as we work to rapidly vaccinate 2,850 employees in two days. This is a faster vaccination rate than DPH has been conducting on its own, and it’s due to the fact our school nurses, police officers and other staff who otherwise would need to be at their schools will be assisting. Clustering vaccinations into this single arena event expedites the vaccination process for our employees and will ultimately enhance our ability to continue offering as much in-person learning to your children as possible. We are grateful to DPH for its continued partnership and support, and we are thankful to all of our employees, students, families and partners for working together to keep our schools open.
