Two Cherokee County School District students have graduated from a regional leadership program.

Etowah High School sophomore Ila Prabhuram and Woodstock High School junior Fawzan Khan were among 29 outstanding high school students selected to participate in the Model Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) youth leadership program, which recently concluded for the school year.

The six-month program offers 29 high school students the opportunity to learn about issues affecting their region, including housing affordability, water usage, and transportation options.  The students had the opportunity to speak with local leaders and to offer their own ideas as to how to improve life in metro Atlanta for its residents.

“I commend the work and collaboration these young leaders put into the MARC program,” said Kerry Armstrong, ARC board chair. “The insights they bring to the challenges facing our region is refreshing, and make me feel optimistic about our future.”

The program is accepting applications for the 2021-22 class through June 4 from rising sophomores and juniors who live in the 10-county metro Atlanta area.  There is no cost to participate.  The class meets on Saturdays once a month for six months beginning in August, and will kick off with online sessions and transition to in-person meetings.
