CCSD PTA School of Excellence Winners - RRHS WHS 8 10 21

Two Cherokee County School District schools have been honored by the National PTA for excellence!

River Ridge High School and Woodstock High School are winners of the National PTA School of Excellence award, a two-year title that recognizes outstanding partnerships between local PTAs and schools “to build an inclusive and welcoming school-community where all families contribute to enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.”  To be considered for this honor, a school and its PTA unit must commit to working together to set and meet goals for improving family engagement.

The PTSA at River Ridge High School last school year was led by President Brenda Page, while Tawnya Velzy served as president for the Woodstock High School PTSA.  The schools are led by River Ridge High School Principal Todd Miller and Woodstock High School Principal Mark Smith.

“Our partnership with the PTA provides incredible support to our schools, and we’re deeply proud to see two of our schools recognized at the National level as a result of this collaboration,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “PTA volunteers, by donating their time, talent and treasure, make a significant positive impact on the instruction in our schools, and, of equal importance, they provide invaluable assistance in ensuring all families feel welcome to be an active part of their child’s school.  Thank you for all you do to serve our students, families and staff, and congratulations!”

The schools will receive a banner to display celebrating this National recognition.  The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize this honor at the August School Board meeting.
