Cherokee County School District students have been named to the State School Superintendent’s 2020-21 Student Advisory Council!

Creekview HS sophomore Kylie Buchanan and Woodstock HS junior Fawzan Khan are among the 64 high school and middle school students from across the state selected for the prestigious role.  They were chosen by State School Superintendent Richard Woods from more than 1,400 applications statewide based on their answers to essay questions about improving public education.  Additionally, Etowah HS 10th-grader Ila Prabhuram, who has served the last two school years, has been asked to serve again.

They will meet with Superintendent Woods throughout the school year, beginning with a virtual meeting next month, to talk about the impact of state policies in the classroom. 

“Now more than ever, it is essential that I receive feedback directly from students on their educational experience,” Superintendent Woods said.  “My Student Advisory Council has been an invaluable part of my decision-making process for the last six years, and I am looking forward to meeting with the 2020-21 Council soon.” 

The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s November meeting will recognize Kylie and Fawzan in celebration of their appointment.

“I’m grateful to them for their willingness to represent their schools and our School District at the state level, and so proud of them for achieving this honor,” CCSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower.  “I plan on meeting with them soon to hear their feedback on how to improve our School District and know they will serve our community and our state well in their new role.”
